Mac OS Sequoia is Here- But Slow Your Roll!!

As I’ve previously written about, updates aren’t always upgrades. Audio professionals know not to leap too soon because the software they rely on to do their jobs likely needs time to catch up!

If you’re a voice actor recording from home, make sure you check that your recording software and plugins are compatible with the new operating system. You may lose valuable time for small gains at the expense of critical apps.

Source Elements has a list of their apps and what will/ won’t work with Sequoia. I rely heavily on the legacy version of Nexus, so at the moment- I can’t update (let alone Pro Tools not being compatible yet). I’m hoping they release patches for compatibility rather than force users into monthly subscriptions for their new offerings. Thankfully, Source Connect still works, but with the same user interface glitches we’ve seen in Sonoma.

If you do choose to upgrade your OS at any point- make sure you’ve backed up the old system. I can’t recommend using the built-in Time Machine backup system from Apple. All you need is a dedicated external drive, and if your system totally fails for any reason, you can restore it from that drive.

Slow your roll and be patient! Be careful out there.
