Welcome 2021 with some "Must Hear" Material

We can all agree that 2020 sucked. Big time. But there was some good mixed in with the all the bad. One of the best things to come out of my early lockdown Home Studio webinars were my Mentor Monday events. One Monday night a month, I pair a couple of heavy-hitter voice actors together to discuss their careers and give guidance to a live Zoom audience. They are always a lot of fun, and began to serve a double purpose as episodes of my as of yet unreleased podcast Un:Sung- The People you Don't Know you Know!

To kick off 2021, I'm releasing a bunch of those recordings- unedited and a bit raw, but no less enjoyable and informative. On top of that, I am adding some links to excellent podcast episodes I mixed for others that are excellent resources for aspiring and working voice actors. Scroll down for material from people like Rob Paulsen and Bob Bergen from Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast, plus info on the Kaili Vernoff hosted Let's Play from the GameHers.

Thank you for everyone who has participated, attended and spent time with me on Zoom in 2020. I will keep it all going in 2021 with a whole new series heading your way. Enjoy!

Debra Sperling and Brian Cooney joined me for an outstanding evening discussing the world of promos. Of course we talked about much more than that! But if you're curious about that end of the voice acting world- listen to two of the very best in the business!

Actors Kaili Vernoff and Jen Cohn joined me for a great discussion of their work in video games and how they got where they are. Two incredibly talented greats from movies, TV, games, commercials and so much more.

Speaking of Kaili Vernoff and gaming, I had the pleasure of mixing Season 2 of the podcast Let's Play by the GameHers. Each week, Kaili interviews giants of the business- from actors to casting directors to the programmers themselves. If you're remotely interested in gaming or the acting and business behind it- tune in and subscribe now! Season 2 guests include Alex McKenna (Sadie Adler in R2R2), actor David Patrick Kelly (Twin Peaks, John Wick), Jacquie Shriver Sladeck (games casting and dialogue professional) and so many more. Kelly Deadmon and Jim Conroy were the first brave volunteers to participate in Mentor Monday. They set the bar pretty high with a no-holds-barred discussion of the voice acting business, the state of things as they were back in June plus how they not only got into the business, but continue to thrive.

You might know Nancy Giles for her work on CBS Sunday Morning. She joined Chris Phillips for a fun and informative evening discussing their wide ranging careers- from TV shows, animation, promos and so much more! This one is missing from my Zoom cloud, but I have added it to my YouTube channel. Over time, I hope to add more content there.

More fun! Back in May, I held a night for ad agency clients and actors alike to get an understanding of what the audio production process looks like in lockdown. I had worked out the kinks back in March, and wanted to share how we could all continue to work during the pandemic. Here we are entering 2021, and this system continues to work flawlessly for my animation clients, ad agency work, simple VO records and more. This workflow has kept us all working together while keeping our distance.

After this event, I invited a few other great actors to participate and made this video to share. The actors have a range of vocal booths at home- from Studio Bricks down to closet conversions and "the cabana booth" I've shared with so many. The point it they all sound great, making the point again that you don't need to break the bank to get the work done.

In addition to the podcast posted above with Kaili Vernoff, I wanted to share a couple of episodes of Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast I had mixed. A few years ago, I had just finished working on a cartoon session directed by voice icon Rob Paulsen when I asked him if he'd be interested in being a guest. If you're a voice actor, you probably know him by now. If you're not sure- you MUST listen to this episode!

To kick things up a notch, Rob came back at the end of 2019 and was joined by ANOTHER Icon: Bob Bergen! If you want to get a great sense of their history, the animation world and what makes being in this business so special- TUNE IN NOW! I was so fun recording and mixing this podcast. https://www.gilbertpodcast.com/bob-bergen-and-rob-paulsen/

While we're talking about animation legends- another great episode to check out is from Larry Kenny (Lion-O, Sonny the Cuckoo Bird for Cocoa Puffs, and the voice of countless commercials- including the recent Skittles "Taste the Rainbow" spots). https://www.gilbertpodcast.com/larry-kenney/
